BOGUS callers are at work in Bridlington and police are urging residents to be vigilant about opening their doors to strangers.
On Monday afternoon an elderly lady let a man into her home in Second Avenue who claimed to be from the "water board".
As he was checking the water, an accomplice shouted to him and both men left in the direction of Limekiln Lane.
The woman later discovered money had been taken from her handbag.
The first man is described as in his early 40s, of average build with a fair complexion and about 5ft 7in.
He was wearing a navy blue baseball cap, dark trousers, a dark buttoned jacket and it is believed he had a local accent.
The second man is described as slim and in his 30s. He had dark, short hair and was wearing a light-coloured top.
Officers are advising people to be on their guard in the area and to always ask for identification before allowing anyone into their homes. Also, keep windows and doors locked to prevent people sneaking into homes.
Anyone who can identify the men or who saw people acting suspiciously in the area is asked to contact police on 0845 6060222, quoting log 565 of September 1, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
