Mistake with weed killer

OOPS! This stretch of grass verge from the Broadacres pub up to Bridlington Bay Road roundabout is looking a bit browned off.
Worried it could be the result of some new council scorched-earth policy ahead of more regeneration works, the Free Press asked the authority if it knew what had happened.

It seems a couple of weeks ago one of East Riding of Yorkshire Council's grass verge weed control machines was being driven from one area to another when somehow a weed killer spray arm was accidentally switched on and took out a swathe of grass, weeds and all.

A council spokes-man said the driver alerted the council immediately after it had happened and since then the ground has been rotovated and re-seeded to repair the damage.

"The weed killer is exactly the same as used on the edges of verges to keep them clear but it was just sprayed in the wrong place," said the council spokesman.
