Mancrief proud of his Saturday Leagus stars

Scarborough Saturday League boss Shaun Mancrief was proud of his side after their friendly draw with Scarborough Athletic on Saturday.

The game finished level at 1-1 following a 72nd minute abandonment, which was caused by midfielder Danny Jenkinson breaking his fibia and tibia in a 50-50 challenge.

Boro had taken the lead through Tom Corner, but a Dean Craig penalty in the second half restored parity.

Jenkinson went in for a full-blooded tackle with Boro’s Steve Mallory, which resulted in him being rushed to hospital.

Mancrief said: “Danny is one of those 100% players, he will always go for those tackles.

“He went for a similar one earlier in the game, but sadly he just got caught in this one.

“It was a 50-50 tackle, so there isn’t much more you can say about it.

“It was a pity because I think we were turning the screw at that point, the lads were playing well.

“The first half was tough, which is why I only played one up front. I thought we paid them too much respect, we weren’t getting into them enough.

“in the second half we started to knock it around a bit and I think we were on top.

“For a local lads they did really well, I’m really, really proud of them.”

Mancrief was also full of praise for the set-up at Silver Royd, which hosted the game.

He added: “This is where Scarborough should play in my eyes, it was a great crowd at a great facility.

“Cheap to get in, people enjoying football with a beer, you can’t beat it.”
